So I honestly can't remember everything I've done since my last update, so I'm going to have to go off of the pictures I'll be sharing. It will most likely not be in the correct timeline either because...well...I can't remember. I'll try, though.
Let's begin!
It was this guy's birthday one Wednesday a while back. That was fun but I don't think I got a picture of his cake which is totally stupid of me since it was THE cutest thing ever. And it was pretty cheap too, 10,000 ($9ish). It was a blue normally circle cake with the cutest puppy dog face on it and a little pink tongue and everything. I'm so jealous that my birthday doesn't happen here in Korea (dang it mom and dad).
I was really proud of myself for not drinking, but that's only because I knew I would be drinking the following two nights...
Like this night. I drank...quite a bit, but that's only because we were playing card games and I'm not that luck with them! But I do know my limit when it comes to alcohol and I've had the pleasure of not throwing up so far. I'm doing pretty good over here. Though sometimes when you drink a lot of soju, the taste alone can make you gag. I'm not the only one who feels this way!
But yes, we were at the famous bar among the foreign students, Hidden Code. We literally go every Friday or after any event the school clubs we're in holds. Without fail. Actually last night people went too, but I didn't. Anyway. I drew on the wall that night. And I even added America. Classy.
You know, I find it funny that before I came here I was like, ew no I'm not going to drink, I don't like alcohol. But here I am, basically drinking every weekend (in moderation of course and usually just Thursday and Friday, a little Monday too......). But okay, I blame soju. It's flavored, only about 13-14% alcohol, doesn't taste like acetone when it goes down (except grapefruit). Thankfully, we don't have these in America so when I go back I won't be drinking anymore, aha. The drinking culture is so strong here, seriously. Shame on you if you don't drink (unless you have a nice person who drinks for you when you lose a game since you're sick).
This! Is a Coin Karaoke Room (코인 노래방). Basically, the best thing ever. 500W gets you 2 songs. And the best part is that, if there's a room open when you arrive, you don't have to talk to anybody which is great when it's just foreigners in the group. Though this particular place doesn't have a lot of the songs I want to sing, I've been here twice and it's good. You can hear everyone singing though....which has to suck for the employee working because some of these people (myself included) are horrible...
THIS STUFF
IS SO GOOD. Actually, I have a bowl of it chillin' on my desk right now. It's honestly the best ramen I've ever tasted. This one is spaghetti ramen and it's so so so good. It has a little vent for all of your water which is beautiful and I think all ramen bowls/cups should invest in that little feature. Seriously. If you come to Korea or you find this in a store by chance, GET IT. The instructions are in Korean of course, but I'll tell you how to make it, no problem, It's so yummy~ I've had it like...four times so far....NO REGRETS.
So. That was samgyeopsal (삼겹살) but it was quickly demolished and I only thought to take a picture after the damage was done. This particular place has had the best meat. I've been to four places and this one was oh so good. Like, you drown your onions in that bowl of brown stuff (soy sauce marinade) and then you cook it and it's like sweet and salty and it marries that meat, just freaking puts a ring on it and sweeps it off it's feet....I'm so hungry for this right now oh gosh...
Moving on.
I know they're like the same picture, but I like both so. Here.
There's a lake behind our school, Gwanggyo Lake (광교호수), and it also has a nice little park with SWINGS. I like swings. Actually, I went back here a couple nights ago, and it's so nice at night. But it rained, so that wasn't nice.
It's extremely pretty at night and the lights change color which is great. There's a lot of bugs though...
So one weekend, Rebekah and I decided to go to Gangnam! She hadn't been there yet so we decided, ayo, let's go and get Taco Bell!
For the 1 hour bus ride, we got snacks and a drink and well...this...she got a coffee one and well...not good. We didn't like either of the drinks...
Yay random street photos!
Okay, compared to America, or at least Racine and Milwaukee, Korea takes their cake seriously. Such an intense art form. Like, they're so beautiful, I don't want to eat them.
Found this gem at a Nike Outlet.
We tried to buy shoes in Gangnam, really, we went to a lot of places. There was one store where both Rebekah and I were like, yes, we want this pair. I wanted white high top Converse, BUT they didn't have my size. Of course. But they didn't even have Rebekah's size and she's smaller than what I requested. And I mean, I requested a unisex size shoe. How sad. They were the cheapest I've ever seen them. Like a whole $10 off.
Overpriced Taco Bell with a tiny quesadilla. Which, I tried to order in Korean but the girl. The girl was like -English all the way- and I kinda just stood there like, hey, let me have my moment where I can shine with my impressive Korean skills. She took that from me and broke it right in half. To make matters worse, the Korean word for quesadilla pronounces the l's and she was like "a quesadilla?" like the English way and I was just like.....blank faced....embarrassed.
I still want to go back and get a steak quesadilla (I got a special one that was really sub par) and a chalupa.
So, I got a $10 bookbag that's pretty cute at the station in Gangnam. I wanted to get a white choker and I still regret not getting it.... But I did find the sunglasses I've been looking for a got a pair. They're huge on my face, but I mean, whatever, I like them a lot.
Please disregard that ugly little wink, I was trying to be ~cool~. But yeah they're pretty big...makes me kinda sad...they didn't look that big when I bought them (of course). But I like them and I want more colors!
Okay enough for this post. Please wait for the next part!
