The Flight to Korea

Where do I even begin?

Well it started as most mornings start. A nervous mind, a cramping stomach yelling at me to get back to bed, and a really hot shower to warm me up. I printed my documents and bought my Coach ticket and that was that. I was ready to go.

My mom drove me to the Iron Skillet station where I only freaked out a little because the bus was like maybe 5 or 6 minutes off schedule. To be fair, I was freaking out over every little thing, okay? I had a right to if you ask me. You try going overseas by yourself with no means of communication and a whole new language. It's actually scary.

Gate M7, where I was to sit for two hours. My bag and ticket packet fell everywhere outside of Korean Air's check in counter. This is what I get for purchasing a shotty suitcase with some real crappy wheels. And having a carry on that had some real balance issues. I went to go exchange my cash for some Korean Won, though. That was entertaining. The lady behind the desk, who may be Russian, was super nice and friendly and funny. She called me a millionaire and gave me some money advice. She also wished me well, both with the trip and my future career. All and all, that was probably the nicest encounter I had all day. Probably because her English wasn't too limited and I wasn't too awkward of a human being... I really need to work on that.

Korean Airlines. After I embarrassed myself once again by going to first class, not economy, and being tracked down by a flight attendant to save me from further embarrassment, it was smooth sailing. Flying. Their service is pretty great. I received two meals, some juice cups, really really good honey roasted peanuts, a bottle of water (which I have been nursing even to this very moment), a blanket, toothbrush, paper slippers, headset, and a hot towel. Like, I know it wasn't first class, but thanks, that was the best I've ever been treated on a plane. Even better than that time I was in first class. I got a little pillow too.

My first meal (after those amazing nuts, goodness) was chicken and egg fried rice. I tried to play it safe with my meals, last thing I wanted was an upset stomach. This meal came with the cutest roundest little ball of wheat bread ever, fruit, a mini caprese salad, and some silverware. The mini salad was good, with the cute balls of mozzarella. The chicken wasn't so bad either. There was watermelon in the fruit and I was good to go.

After the first meal, which they surprised me by serving it within the first hour, I kinda just passed out. I had taken allergy pills to help get me sleepy. It worked. Though, my version of sleeping while in public, is a weird not so restful half conscious half asleep kind of thing. Not cool, but there went about five hours of my flight. They kept the cabin really dark, so all thoughts of doing anything that wasn't on a lit screen was thrown out the window.

It was then that I decided to test out this thing. At first, I was just using it to watch the scenery go by underneath the plane. But when I woke up to the darkness of the plane, I figured it was time to give it a try. The headsets provided by the attendants plug up to the arm rest, which took me a little tiny while to figure but I got it! They have movies, tv shows, and music. I didn't touch the games. So I watched The Intern, two Big Bang Theory episodes, even two Mike and Molly episodes. I started to watch Star Wars IV: A New Hope, but the second meal had made me tired so I gave up twenty minutes in. Maybe next time. The movies and such really helped the time go by.

The second meal, I chose pasta. Basically, mostacholi with some little veggies sprinkled in. It came with what I think was sweet potato hunks? I honestly have no clue what it was. It didn't taste like sweet potatoes, kind of spicy, so I just stopped eating it. The guy next to me got an even more suspicious side dish. I also got a warm little bread loaf and chocolate cake!

They offer coffee and tea after the meals, but I figured I already had to go the bathroom enough as it was, tea would not help. Especially since the guy next to me was passed out three fourths of the ride and I had to wake him up to get out of the aisle. They also offer you orange juice and pineapple juice after long periods of sleep. I thought that was really nice. Until I accidentally grabbed pineapple instead of orange juice...

So that was my flight. My butt is permanently pancaked from about 20 hours total of sitting yesterday. Second part of my journey to school will be uploaded next. And just a heads up, I didn't proofread this so please excuse my mistakes.

  1. It's great to hear that you safely got on board and had a safe flight! The food on the airplane sounds good! Ooh! You should take pictures of all the food you eat! Lol, that sounds kinda creepy! XD #foodie
